PostSubject: What is Theistic Satanism?   Sun Oct 07, 2012 2:13 pm

The word Satanism is an umbrella term which encompasses many different styles of belief and practice. Similar to other religions, Satanism has developed into distinct sects over time, one side preferring a more spiritual or religious approach, and the other side prefering a more material and symbolic approach.

Satanism is the focus on Satan

Overall, something is ''Satanic'' because it is focused on the central figure of Satan, through mythology, symbolism, or spiritual and religious reverence. Since there is variety in Satanism, sometimes you will find this representation through literature about Satan, from the past and in the present. Satanists idealize Satan, anthropomorphizing him or her into a living god.

Satan was and still is a figure of evil, darkness and deceit for many in Christianity. Satanists, however have their own views on what Satan represents. Oftentimes it is a personal representation based on the relationship that the [theistic, spiritual] Satanist has with their god. This god-figure has shown benevolence towards those that walk the Satanic path, and Satanists have come to put their faith, love and trust into Satan. And, Satan welcomes all with open arms.

Satanism is unique, there is no other path like it. It remains one of the most personally and spiritually difficult and challenging paths to take. As a satanist, your life will transform into something that you never have expected. Satanism, when it is studied and practiced in a meaningful and personal way, will transform in a fundamental way the mind, body and spirit.

Philosophies, Ethics and Moralities

Most Satanists would agree that the best approach in life is to make the most out of life by living through personal principles that promote self-serving and enjoyment. Generally, to be avoided are the things that make life difficult – such as self-deceit, and self destruction. This seems like common sense, but keep in mind that the ethics of Satanists will vary depending on what they study and what they practice.

In general, we do not seek to harm others. Some will attack when provoked much like an animal, striking back with magic spells and curses and psychological play. But not all Satanists are so scornful. There is a general stereotype that Satanists are menacing creatures who only use destructive black magic to harm others just for perverse pleasure; such are the creations of Hollywood, and the imaginings of those that buy into stereotypes.

Society worldwide has a generally negative view of Satanism. This is generally true wherever Christianity is found. In some cases the public have been so afraid that it has caused a panic. Hopefully, people have learned from what happened in the 1980's, during the Satanic Panic.

The Satanic Panic of the '80s was a dark time in society where people blamed Satanists for committing horrifying crimes and abuses. Those who were in charge of caring for children were targeted by the religious right, pursued by therapists and judges and lawyers. Cases were bounced in and out of kangaroo courts, declaring verdicts of guilty on the innocents. All it took to condemn an innocent was a coerced testimony that was harvested from sessions with therapists that used suggestive hypnosis.

The same thing happened for centuries during the Witchcraft trials. Many innocents died at the hands of Christians who declared them to be unworthy of living. Not one single shred of physical evidence had ever been found, however. Regardless of this, some people who remember that era still think that the panic pursued real satanists and that the horrifying crimes that were suggested really did happen.

The Satanist's Relationship to Satan

Theistic Satanism is the practice of recognizing Satan as a spiritual being. With Theistic Satanism, the Satanist knows, feels and believes that Satan is there for them, as a god-form, a deity. Satanists in general have a favorable view of Satan, and we find that Satan provides for us in our time of need. I have read many stories for many years now, describing how with the proper relationship to Satan, a person can succeed. But, the job is not his alone. Satanism is an all-encompassing lifestyle that allows you to take from life what is most important to you. You create Satanism the way that you want it and you can use it to better yourself, your life and everything that you know.

Some of us meditate. Others practice rituals of worship, or self-worship. Other Satanists try to live through the principles of Satanism. You can practice these things alone or join a group- the choice is yours. But, know that here at spiritualsatanist.com, I teach independent Satanism. Independent Satanism is the practice of living through Satanism without belonging to any groups or organizations. Sure, there is a lot more work, study, planning and preperation involved, but in order to really make Satanism your own, you should endeavor to break away from the safety that is provided in group practice, and study alone instead, where your Satanism can be about you, Satan, and your relationship to Satanism.
